# About Generative Icons

Generative Icons is a library of 1,141 animated icons for web, iOS and Android apps, made by [LottieFiles](https://lottiefiles.com). Every icon is a native vector dotLottie file with two motions, Light for everyday feedback and Strong for moments that need emphasis, and three styles: Outline in three weights, Solid and Duotone. Apps change the color, style, weight and motion at runtime, so one file serves every theme.

## How the icons are made

Every icon is authored as editable source by AI coding agents following one set of [drawing](/docs/design-principles/) and [motion](/docs/motion-principles/) principles, exported as native Lottie on LottieFiles' hosted engine, and checked at every size, style, weight and theme before it ships. The same tools let your own coding AI [create a missing icon](/docs/creating-icons/) in your project, in the same style.

## Using them

The icons, the runtime and the packages are MIT licensed, for personal and commercial apps. Install them with the generative-icons CLI and the runtime package ([guide](/docs/using-packages/)), download the files from any icon page, or let an AI agent find them through the [MCP server and API](/developers/).

## Status

The website, its search, the API and the MCP servers are live. The npm packages, the hosted library behind the CLI and the submission service go live at launch; [known limitations](/docs/limitations/) lists what else is not finished.
