Questions
What is Generative Icons?
A free library of 1,141 animated icons by LottieFiles for web, iOS and Android apps. Each icon is a native vector dotLottie file with two motions (Light and Strong) and three styles (Outline in three weights, Solid and Duotone) that your app recolors and restyles at runtime.
Is it free to use?
Yes. The icons, the runtime and the packages are MIT licensed, for personal and commercial apps.
How do I add an icon to my app?
Find the icon here, open it and copy its install commands: generative-icons add copies the icon file and a typed descriptor into your project, and the runtime package plays it. Every icon page has code for JavaScript, React, iOS (SwiftUI) and Android (Compose). The npm packages go live at launch.
Can I change the color, style and motion?
Yes, at runtime: any color, Outline, Solid or Duotone, an outline weight from 1 to 3, and Light or Strong motion. Two-state icons, such as toggles, play forward and back between their states.
What if the icon I need is not here?
Your coding AI can create it in your own project with the generative-icons CLI, in the same drawing and motion style, and offer it to the library. The guide "Create an icon" shows how.
Can AI agents use the library?
Yes, without signing in. Agents can search icons and get their files and code through the MCP server at https://generativeicons.com/mcp or the REST API described at https://generativeicons.com/openapi.json, read the guides through https://generativeicons.com/mcp/docs, or message the A2A agent at https://generativeicons.com/a2a; llms.txt gives an overview.
